This is a review of the Bachmann Class 03 Diesel Shunter in the BR Blue livery numbered as 03162 that was released late last year. Unlike 03066 that came out two years ago, 03162 is a Weathered variant and this time the factory weathering looks a lot nicer compared to my Class 04 that I had to fix as the factory weathering on that model was not too realistic. But Bachmann have got it right this time as the weathering is ambient on this model and therefore looks more realistic. This model has a working cab light and also has a 6 pin DCC decoder socket, so no need for any hardwiring here. The model runs very smooth after running in and runs at a scale speed of about 25 mph as per the prototype. There is optional valances that can be used to cover the gap if the buyer decides to remove the two NEM couplers which are supplied in the sachet. A great model that would suit any post 1979 and later layouts.
Overall Rating: 10/10.
