Bundesliga CEO highlights growth of league.
Bundesliga Chief Executive Officer Christian Seifert assesses the current state of German football at the headquarters of the German Football League in Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Christian Seifert, Bundesliga Chief Executive Officer:
"I would think so, that the clubs and the DFL (Deutsche Futball Liga, German Footbal League) had a plan, developed years ago, how to improve German football. After a not very good European Championship in the year 2000, the decision was done that each club, which wants to play in the Bundesliga, needs to have a youth academy, a youth education centre, and today more than five thousand players are trained in these centres and if you have a look at Borussia Dortmund or Bayern Munich, six to seven German players are playing in the first team and that is a clear signal that Germany has a lot of talented players in this country today."
Christian Seifert, Bundesliga Chief Executive Officer:
"The theory behind it (the Bundesliga's business model) is that we want to have strong financial clubs who are able to afford the team they play with, right from the so-called 'core business', which means that they have media revenues, they have matchday revenues, sponsorship revenues and this should be the financial background of every team in Germany and from todays perspective, I think, we have a very unpredictable competition, we have very strong teams, some of the best players in the world, but on the other hand we have also a very social price structure, for instance when you have a look at the tickets in the stadia."
