What happens when you decide to run a 60k ultra around a lake and casually ask a friend to join?
In this video, I take you along as I tackle 60 kilometers (12 laps) around the Aasee in Münster. It was tough, long, and full of lessons—but having one good friend alongside made all the difference. Spoiler: even Aiko, who recently ran a 2:48 marathon, admitted that this ultra hurt more. Why? It’s not just about the distance—it’s about the TIME your body spends grinding away.
Key Learnings from my first 60k ultra:
1. Start slower than you think you need to. It seems obvious, but it’s harder to get right than you’d think.
2. Stop as little as possible. Every break makes restarting feel like climbing a mountain.
3. Respect your body and weak points. Mobility and strength training aren’t optional if you want to run long distances without falling apart.
