(6 Jan 1995) The 23 trucks involved in a smuggling bid remained stranded
on the narrow border road between Montenegro and Bosnia on Friday
(6/1), six days after their operation was detected by Yugoslav
army and Montenegrian police. The drivers, carrying petrol, oil
and cigarettes, had gambled that border staff would be light
because of the New Year celebrations. The chief international
observer, retired Swedish general Bo Pellnas, visited the scene on
Thursday and said he would submit a new "positive report" to the
international conference on former Yugoslavia, on the
effectiveness of the blockade.
