(26 Aug 2011) HEADLINE: Earthquake jolts Washington, workers head for home
CAPTION: A magnitude 5.8 earthquake centered just 90 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. sent scores of workers streaming out of buildings there, damaging pinnacles at the National Cathedral and creating a traffic tie-ups more akin to a blizzard. (Aug. 23)

SOON ... MANY DECIDED TO CALL IT A DAY, EVERYONE SEEMING TO TAKE TO THE STREETS AT ONCE ... LEADING TO THE KIND OF GRIDLOCK THAT USUALLY COMES WITH WINTER STORMS HERE.

AS PEOPLE TOOK TO THEIR MOBILE DEVICES TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED ... SIGNS OF DAMAGE STARTED APPEARING.

AT THE FAMED NATIONAL CATHEDRAL ... PART OF A PINNACLE, GONE. OTHERS, SEEMINGLY NOT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE.

SOT: You can see in a few places some scattered stone, and rock on the ground that indicates there has been some crumbling. And you can see a few small cracks but they aren''t deep to the naked eye and they don''t indicate major damage at all ...

SOT: Seeing that knocked off like that and crooked like that, it''s devastating. I took quite a few pictures. But I''m really shocked.

SOT: It just started slowly shaking ... Like standing on a bowl of jelly.
SOT: Everybody ran out screaming ... People lost their shoes actually.
AT UNION STATION ... EVERYTHING SLOWED DOWN ... AMTRAK AND SUBWAY TRAINS TOLD TO GO SLOW ... ENOUGH TIME TO GAWK AT SOME DAMAGE TO THE CEILING.
