This test will work on any single cylinder engine. Very simple homemade vacuum tester, made out of a few cable ties, and a transparent hose.
If your engine is leaking oil, the breather reed could be broken. One way to find out quickly is to do a vacuum test of the crank case.
That is very easy to do. Watch the video, and learn how to measure the pressure. On a Kohler Courage SV600 engine the min. allowed vacuum is 4 inch water column. If it is more, that's good, but if it is less, then you have a problem. For example if there is pressure instead of vacuum, then your engine will leak oil, the oil dip stick may pop out, or it will have problems starting the engine at all.
This is an easy method to diagnose gasket and seal leaks on an engine.
