Ajax Amsterdam vierde een belangrijk succes in de Eredivisie en versloeg Feyenoord Rotterdam met 2-0 in een achtervolgingsduel. De koers werd bepaald door een uiterst ongelukkig eigen doelpunt van de gastheren.
Voor de wedstrijd stonden Ajax en Feyenoord gelijk op de tweede en derde plaats, nu is het de hoofdstadclub die als eerste koploper PSV Eindhoven achtervolgt. In Rotterdam hielp de tegenstander echter ook veel: Feyenoord-verdediger Senesi wilde een vrij onschuldige voorzet van Tadic accepteren, maar vervalste die zo ongelukkig dat de bal over de lijn spartelde in de richting van keeper Bijlow (43.).
Aangezien Ajax in hun 17e wedstrijd van het seizoen voor de 13e keer geen doelpunt tegen kreeg, zou het ongeluk van de tegenpartij al voldoende moeten zijn om te winnen. Aanvoerder Tadic maakte er in de slotfase 2-0 van met een penalty (81e).
