Speaker Biography:
Emily has worked as part of R&D at the Austin site for over 15 years. During her tenure, she has lead and contributed to multiple projects including sample preparation and analysis of nucleic acids (including real-time PCR) from a wide range of sample types, library preparation for sequencing, and purification and analysis of exosomes. Recently and for the past several years, her efforts have shifted to the development of high-throughput and automated DNA/RNA extraction methods from clinical samples (such as biofluids) for use within larger analysis workflows ranging from such as Pharmacogenomics, Pathogen/Microbial Detection, Disease studies and Biomarker studies.
Ketil Pedersen has been dedicating his career to research as a Staff Scientist for 14 years and based out of Oslo, Norway. Ketil has extensive experience using Dynabeads for isolating cells, exosomes and proteins from a wide range of sample types and managing his team of scientists. He is always happy to discuss science and technology-based challenges across his many fields of study including exosomes, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, cell isolation and T cell activation. His work has been instrumental in the development of Automated Cell, exosomes & protein isolation solutions that speed up processes or improve workflows. A recent notable publication is the Automated pull-down of extracellular vesicles (EVs) on KingFisher using Dynabeads magnetic beads – standardizing EV capture and analysis.
Suraj Patel, Ph.D.
Suraj has worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific for 7 years and for most of that time been involved with the sample preparation portfolio for various countries in the EMEA region. As part of his commercial role Suraj has been involved with developing the Kingfisher portfolio and business into applications beyond the conventional nucleic acid extraction and into areas of protein and cell isolation. During his time performing demonstrations with customers he has also been involved with creating new protocols, adapting current ones to help support more optimal extractions as well as helping the businesses after sales training and technical support teams to ensure high customer satisfaction.
Recently Suraj has been promoted to sample preparation manager so his team now focus on the entire sample preparation portfolio in ThermoFisher Scientific over the EMEA region. His team play a crucial role in pre-sales and technical support and with the huge involvement with extractions for the COVID-19 pandemic they are also now shifting focus into the clinical market for sample preparation.
Webinar:
Learn how to maximize KingFisher instruments to automate DNA, RNA, proteins & cells for all applications
Webinar Abstract:
Explore the adaptability of your KingFisher instrument. Discover all the ways your Thermo Scientific™ KingFisher™ system can empower you beyond SARS-CoV-2 research and testing. Wherever your research takes you after the pandemic, your KingFisher instrument can help advance your changing goals. Explore the wide range of applications it supports and how you can make the most of your investment now and in the future. Join our Thermo Fisher scientists as we give you information on transitioning to other applications including: 1) detection of cell-free DNA, 2) genetic testing, 3) detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater samples, 4) detection of vaginal and urinary tract infections, as well as 5) detection of proteins for use in downstream applications. A live Q&A session will follow as we explore various solutions that support an array of research opportunities.
