Ghost nets not only catch and kill fish, turtles, crustaceans and marine mammals, they can also damage coral reefs while swaying in the current. Ghost nets are a source of marine pollution that keep catching animals long after they are abandoned or lost.
While teaching the Ocean Gardener instructor course at Murex Dive Resorts we found a ghost net abandoned on the reef. Our coral army went quickly into action, removing two large sections of the ghost net from Crystal Bay, Gangga Island Sulawesi.
Removing ghost nets can help protect coral reefs, every little bit counts in the effort to save corals.
