The Hellenic Innovation Network, with the support of the Consulate General of Greece in Boston and MIT Enterprise Forum Greece, hosts events to educate those in the US about technology innovation and entrepreneurship in Greece, and to offer Greek entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch and network in the US. While events are typically held in Boston, due to the covid-19 situation we are hosting a series of 30-minute webcasts, in order to keep our community connected until our next in-person event in the Fall.
During this Hellenic Innovation Network webcast Dr. Stelios Papadopoulos, Chairman of Biogen, and Dr. Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas, Professor Emeritus of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, hosted by Consul General of Greece in Boston, Stratos Efthymiou, discussed the current health crisis and biomedical research in Greece.
These two outstanding and extremely accomplished scientists of the Hellenic Diaspora collaborated at Biogen, co-founded biopharmaceutical companies such as Anadys Pharmaceuticals, and established the non-profit organization Fondation Santé which supports biomedical research in Greece.
The outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic has brought into focus the importance of biotech and biopharma research in developing solutions to our medical challenges. The recent mobilization of the global scientific community in the effort to improve medical care and develop a vaccine in record time highlights the importance of investing in education and supporting young scientists.
