Two historic farm buildings of the Outer castle have been rebuilt at the site of the Teutonic Castle in Malbork – the largest brick castle in the world, which in 1997 was entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. They are part of the farm facilities which has grown successively from the 14th century onwards. The brick buildings have changed their purpose many times since the Middle Ages, they were also constantly rebuilt.
The farm facilities were severely devastated after 1945 and have survived to our times largely as a ruin. It was only in February 2021 that a large project of rebuilding the farm buildings and adapting them to new cultural and educational purposes was launched. Once the renovation and construction works are completed in 2024, the farm facilities will house a library, renovation workshops, a digitization studio and the Centre for Research on Post-Teutonic Heritage.
The new, utilitarian functions required insulating the historic walls. The beautiful brick walls could not be insulated from the outside, so one of the best technologies for insulating historic buildings from the inside was used: Multipor mineral insulation boards. They are completely non-flammable, and in addition they regulate the microclimate inside the rooms. The Multipor technology has been highly valued by monument conservators for years.
