Reak is often featured in ceremonies and thanksgiving events such as circumcisions, agricultural harvests, puberty anniversaries, birthdays, and weddings.

In its performance, Reak includes a set of Sundanese ethnic instruments such as the dogdog, drums, calung, flute and others. These instruments are played to create rhythmic compositions that are also mystical.

The mystical rhythm which then makes masked dancers, lumping horses to babarongan move without their will. The ecstatic phenomenon of union with another world is obtained. So that the body movements in the dance occur naturally according to the will of the spirit who possesses the soul.

Reak sering ditampilkan dalam acara helaran dan syukuran seperti khitanan, panen pertanian, peringatan akil baligh, ulang tahun, hingga pernikahan.

Dalam pergelarannya, reak menyertakan seperangkat instrumen etnik sunda seperti dogdog, kendang, calung, suling dan lainnya. Instrumen tersebut ditabuhkan hingga menciptakan komposisi irama yang ritmis juga mistis.

Irama mistis yang kemudian membuat para penari bertopeng, kuda lumping hingga babarongan bergerak tanpa kehendak. Fenomena ekstase penyatuan dengan dunia lain didapat. Sehingga gerakan tubuh dalam tarian terjadi begitu alami sesuai kehendak roh yang merasuki jiwa.
