(27 Sep 2017) The Libyan Coast Guard rescued over 200 migrants stranded several kilometres north of Tripoli Wednesday afternoon.
One of the survivors said the rubber boat they were in struggled to deal with the increasing size of the waves.
The Coast Guard patrol arrived and took them to the Tripoli naval base.
The boat was heading towards southern Italy with migrants from various Middle Eastern and African countries, among them 30 women and 20 children.
Libya is the main departure point for many people willing to brave potentially perilous sea voyages across the Mediterranean in search of better lives in Europe.
