This is a Christian service that is a time for believers to renew their commitment to God, the Church, and discipleship. The service is a time for self-examination, confession, and reflection. This service will include hymn, prayers, Scripture lessons, a sermon, and Holy Communion.
John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, introduced the service in 1755. The service was originally held on various occasions throughout the year, but by the end of Wesley's life, it was typically observed on or near January 1st.
Today’s renewal service will be an opportunity for the Decatur Methodist family to gather in a time of self-examination, reflection, and dedication, wholly giving up themselves and renewing covenant with God.
