The COVID-19 pandemic has directly exposed racial disparities in healthcare. Underserved and underrepresented minorities have worse outcomes because of lack of healthcare access, discrimination during treatment, and socioeconomic inequality. From the drastic difference in maternal mortality rate to the intersectional issue of housing and health to the disparities made evident by COVID pandemic, racism touches many aspects of health. In this panel, we will discuss some of the ways in which race is intertwined with health outcomes, and actionable steps that scientists and policymakers can take to address these issues.
