"It's Good Friday and so to be in this place and to be, essentially like reliving what Jesus lived. And then it becomes more than just words on a page. STORYLINE
Thousands of Christian pilgrims took part in the Way of the Cross service through the narrow streets of Jerusalem's Old City on Good Friday.
Some carried crosses on their backs as they followed in the footsteps of Jesus to mark the Christian holy day.
According to Christian tradition, the Way of the Cross, or Via Dolorosa, traces back the route walked by Jesus Christ during his passion that eventually led to his crucifixion and resurrection.
There are 14 stations along the route, each marking an event that befell Jesus on his final walk.
The final five stations are inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is built over the area where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified and finally laid to rest before being resurrected on Easter Sunday.
Good Friday is part of the Christian Holy Week which ends with Easter Sunday, when Christians celebrate Christ's resurrection from the dead.
