Both the UK and Holland sent fighter jets to identify planes that turned out to be Russian long-range bombers.
The UK scrambled jets based in Fife, Scotland on April 23.
UK military radar picked up two unidentified planes on Wednesday and responded by sending up two Typhoon fighter jets.
The UK jets identified the planes as Russian TU-95 bombers, but as the Russian planes remained in international airspace, no further action was taken.
Earlier the same day, the Royal Dutch Air Force also sent up fighter jets after the same Russian bombers flew through Dutch airspace.
The Dutch jets escorted the bombers out of the area, after which they turned north and were later detected by the UK.
A UK military spokesperson said that while Russian planes skirt UK airspace with some regularity, no Russian military flights have ever actually crossed into UK airspace without authorization.
