FCE Speaking Part 1 Test (B2). The First Speaking test is an important part of the exam, and the easiest part to pass well if you know what you’re doing! In this blog series I’ll explain each part of the exam, tell you what the examiners are looking for and give you some tips on how to do your absolute best in each part. Remember, the speaking exam is worth 20% of your overall score, and it’s the part which you can use not just your English, but also your personality and your body language to shine!
FCE Speaking Part 1 - 4 Format
The whole exam is approximately 14 minutes long.
There are four parts
Part 1 Interview (2-3 minutes)
Part 2 Long turn (2-3 minutes)
Part 3 Collaborative task (3-4 minutes)
Part 4 Discussion (3-4 minutes)
Candidates do the exam in pairs (or a three if there is an odd number of students enrolled)
There are two examiners, one who will do the speaking exam and who you’ll talk to and one who will listen and assess your mark.

This part of the exam allows you to:
test your ability to answer questions about yourself,
give your opinions on general basic questions,
relax and “warm up” before the more difficult parts of the exam.

In this part we’re making sure we do what we can to relax you and make you feel comfortable so you can do the exam calmly. Examiners are also trained in how to be friendly and approachable so that the candidates feel at ease. We want you to pass as much as you do!
