Major U.S. stock indexes stabilized on Thursday but failed to hold onto early gains, a day after the Federal Reserve's revised outlook for interest rates and inflation triggered a steep selloff.
The Dow industrials rose less than 0.1% on Thursday, or 15.37 points, to 42342.24. Thursday’s modest gain snapped a 10-day stretch of declines for the blue-chip index, its longest streak of daily losses since Oct. 4, 1974.
The S&P 500 fell less than 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.1%.
Asian stocks traded in a tight range early Friday, after the Federal Reserve’s hawkish pivot continued to weigh on US equities and bonds but lifted the dollar.
Shares slid in Australia and South Korea while Hong Kong equity futures dropped.
Meanwhile, The GIFT Nifty was trading 0.33% or 78.50 points down at 23,928 today.
