What is a trigger? It’s not just a strong emotional reaction to an event. A trigger, or “being triggered” is tied to old wounds, usually from childhood.
If our 12 Basic Needs were not met (love, nurture, validation, safety, etc.), this leaves a “hole” in our psyche. When we sense that one of these holes is about to be exposed, we can go from zero to a hundred in a nano-second. Our response is not the response that is appropriate to what is actually happening in front of us, our response comes from our fear and anger around the exposure of the “hole”.
