ABOUT THE FLUTE (Alexis Kossenko & Bernard Duplaix)
Alexis Kossenko : "I just played on one of my favorite instruments : the Louis Lot flute n° 2862 which belonged to Joseph Rampal and that Bernard Duplaix kindly lends me for this recording. It is really the Lot I enjoy most playing, for the lightness of the mechanism, the delicacy of the sound, the warmth in the low register, the quality of the legato, and the dynamism ; although it was build in 1880 by Villette (the immediate successor of Louis Lot), it is representative of the instruments most sought after in the early XXth century by the best flute players. I enjoy playing on it for the repertoire around 1900-1920. It is a very dear instrument to me and I am very thankful to Bernard to let me play on it so regularly."
Bernard Duplaix : "This flute is of the Louis Lot brand, made by his first successor (Villette) who was his main collaborator from the start of the firm in 1855. Louis Lot retired in 1876, this flute was made shortly after, in 1880. It belonged, among others, to Joseph Rampal (Jean-Pierre's father), who played it during a long time. Joseph Rampal was the founder of the "Marseille School" which formed many prestigious pupils such as Maxence Larrieu, Philippe Pierlot, Alain Marion and of course Jean-Pierre Rampal. At the begining of his carreer(in the late 1940s and early 1950s), Jean-Pierre Rampal played this flute that he had borrowed from his father, for various concerts and prestigious recordings, like the famous recital with pianist Lili Kraus".
