Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday evening condoled with the family of former Mathira MP Matu Wamae who passed on last Wednesday.
Speaking when he visited the family at their home in Lavington, Nairobi, the DP mourned the former MP and businessman as a dedicated and focused patriot who was among Kenyans who spearheaded the country's business sector after independence in 1963.
Mr Gachagua who served as Mathira MP from 2017 until he was elected Deputy President in the August 9, 2022 General Election, said he had known the late Wamae for a long time and that his loss was personal to him.
The DP described the late politician as having been a great man, a patriot, a nationalist and an industrious leader who has left a towering legacy.
"He did many things that he will be fondly remembered for. When the history of how Kenya's entrepreneurship shifted from whites to Kenyans is written, Hon.Wamae will have a long chapter," the Deputy President stated.
Mr Wamae was a long serving Chairman of the New KCC and was praises far and wide for reviving the firm after collapsing in the early 2000s.
The DP said the country will forever be grateful for what Mr Wamae did to ensure KCC was back on its feet.
"He will be forever remembered for resuscitating KCC, a dead institution, back to life and today it is the pride of the nation. He turned around KCC single-handedly," he said.
The Deputy President affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza leadership would follow his footsteps as they rehabilitate the Kenyan economy.
"If Wamae could revive a dead institution, following in his footsteps, we will revive the Kenyan economy which we found in a bad situation," he added.
