Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And we're taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Selkirk 460 Camping Stove. So this is going to be a really nice, compact camping stove for any kind of overlanding or car camping that you might be doing. And it makes for a really easy to use, nice-looking, and very easy to clean stove. So the thing that I like most about it is that it's going to be easy to clean and it also gives us really good protection from the wind, has the built-in guards there that lock into the lid, so it gives really great protection for that so you don't have to worry about your flames guttering out on you or just causing issues. Also helps to protect from any kind of oversplatter.
So if you're making bacon or anything else like that, that's going to tend to get everywhere, this can help to mitigate that a little bit.It also is, again, really compact. So if we take it apart, we've just got the little tabs that lock into the lid. So I'm actually going to start on this one. It seems to be a little bit tighter. There we go.
And they do fit pretty snugly in there. I'm just having to look over the side so it makes it a little tricky. And then, it comes down. And then, our attachment for our propane just comes off. And this can also stash inside the case. So it just makes it really nice and compact.
Shouldn't take up a whole lot of room. And this weighs just about eight pounds. So really not too bad as far as lugging this around. If you're going for miles and miles, it might get a little bit tiresome. Does have a cutout handle there to make it pretty easy to carry around.
Although, again, if you're going to be trekking for miles, this can get a little bit uncomfortable, just because it's a cut-in handle. So it's got, not a sharp edge, but just might not be the most comfortable thing. But if you're just going a little ways, it shouldn't be too bad at all. Again, very nice and lightweight.Something else that I like about this is that the bottom doesn't get super hot whenever you're using it. So it's not going to scorch the surface that you're cooking on. So if you've got a table or you're putting this on your tailgate or something like that, shouldn't be an issue. The little latch holding it closed seems to be pretty sturdy. It holds pretty well, as you can see. I'm going to bring this around so I can actually get a hand on that. It is made of plastic. So that's one thing. If you're going to be using this in really cold environments and using it a lot, it might end up wearing out on you. I think it'd probably be fairly easy to replace. But that's just something that I noticed. I think, again, it's pretty sturdy and it does a good job of keeping everything together. But just for the longevity. So setting up. Just go in reverse. The attachment for the propane is pretty easy to get in place. So that's nice that it's pretty simple. Just pop it on there. And then, thread the sleeve over top to get that going. And then, you just attach your propane tank to this end here, of course. So this works well with a one-pound tank. You can get adapters to work with other tanks but that's pretty much what it's meant for there. The burners are a fair distance away from the grill. So it should give you nice, even heat. It should heat up pretty quickly. And then, it's also, as I mentioned, easy to clean. You just pop off the grate. You can wipe everything up. And really nothing to it, as far as that goes. That's something I really like. It's just a nice, solid surface. So it makes it pretty easy to just wipe all that up once you're done. And then, you've just got to pop the grate back in place, which is pretty easy.So it's very portable, very easy to use. It does have the adjustment here for our temperature. So you can get that dialed in either from a simmer to a boil. So you can make sure that you have the right amount of heat for whatever you're trying to cook.In between our wind guards, we've got about 18 inches of space. So I'd say you'd probably be able to use, at most, two 9-inch pans. If not, a 9- and an 8- or two 8-inch or some combination thereof. Might be a little bit cramped if you try to use two 9-inch pans at the same time. If you want to have a bigger surface to cook on, there is the Selkirk 540, which we also have here at etrailer.com. It's going to be the same in every respect. It's just a little bit longer. It's the same height, same depth. Again, just a little bit
