Abstract: We will evoke some mathematical questions raised by the macroscopic description of viscous suspensions. Starting from basic macro/micro models coupling the Stokes equations for the fluid and Newton's relations for the dynamics of the solid particles in the suspension, we will explain how interesting problems in homogenization and mean field theory arise in this context.
