Are there any guitar chords that we could possibly refer to as secret? Today we’re going to take a look at two rare guitar chords that I’ve never played in any of the songs I’ve ever written.

I can also honestly say that I’ve never even seen these chords used in any song that I’ve ever transcribed by another musician or band - which kind of makes them ‘sort of’ a “secret” - I’d suppose!

I must admit, that while these chords are unique in their voicing, (the actual note layout onto the guitar fret-board), their notes come together to create common sounds in music that are based upon, the basic “A major” and, “F# minor,” chord construction.

All that said, even though I’ve never truly used either of these chords when I have been composing, I can definitely say that they both do indeed sound great.

In this lesson, the application of both these chords will be based upon two qualities, the Major 7 and the Minor 11.

We’re going to begin with a theory analysis of each chord, we’ll learn their chord tone construction, and I will help you become familiar with their notes as they are laid-out onto the guitar’s fingerboard.

At the end of the lesson, to help you with their sound, I will place each chord into a chord application exercise to help you hear how they can be featured musically as the Tonic and Relative Minor chords from the key of, “A” Major.
