Artist Lecture with Kerry James Marshall “Monumental Journey”honors the legacy of the twelve African-American lawyers who in 1925 founded the National Bar Association in Des Moines after they were denied membership in the American Bar Association. Their action was an important milestone in the struggle for civil rights and justice not only within the legal profession, but also in American society. This lecture is related programming for "A Monumental Journey," a major public art project commissioned by Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation.
