In order to authorize a new safety system firmware update of the TGV Lyrias in 🇨🇭, InOui trains of the same type (TGV 2N2) are doing test runs all around Switzerland.
This update will allow them to run under ETCS Level 1 Limited Supervision and Level 2 Full Supervision in cabin, which enables them to have a much greater range of possible lines they can run on.
In addition, the traditional Zub&Signum systems won't be needed anymore since the whole swiss standard-gauge network can be accessed with ETCS only (baseline 3 or greater).
The CEVA line has a particularly challenging part, namely the arrival from the CEVA tunnel to Annemasse. Trains have to switch from 🇨🇭 systems (ETCS and 15kV) to 🇫🇷 systems (KVB and 25kV), all while keeping climbing the 27‰ gradient.
The swiss Flirts had to be equipped with a special system that allows one unit to have a pantograph be up, and the other unit have the pantograph down, so that at least a little of power is left to push the multiple unit up the "hill", but I don't know what's the case with the TGVs...
