The case is about former railroad employees who got asbestosis from exposure to asbestos on the job. They sued the railroad for damages under FELA, a law that makes railroads responsible for worker injuries caused by their negligence. The court had to decide whether the workers could recover damages for mental anguish and fear of developing cancer, and whether the railroad was responsible for all the damages even if other parties were involved.
