Peruvian archaeologists have found a pre-Inca mummy in a rich archaeological site just south of Lima.
The faceless mummy was found wrapped in several layers of rich woollen clothing and is thought to be the remains of a young woman who lived some 500 years ago.
This is Pachacamac, a rich archaeological site south of Lima.
The Pachacamac complex includes a temple where human sacrifices to the Inca gods took place.
It was right next to the temple of Muruhay, on the side of a hill called Puruhuay, that the mummy was found.

This mummy was found in Rinconada de Puruhuay by chance. They were cleaning the chapel and there was the mummy, just by chance.

Archaeologists think that the 500-year-old mummy was an offer to the gods. She was found in the fetal position tightly wrapped with vegetal ropes.
Her brunette hair is 20 centimetres long. Her hands are small and thin and her finger nails are very well preserved.
The entire bone structure has been preserved except for the face, which has been destroyed by time.
Peruvian scientists hope this will be the first find of a very rich dig in the Pachacamac complex.
