Bernina users that have the #72 rulerfoot will want to use high shank templates. Longarm and low shank can also be used. The longarm style will have slightly lower needle visibility due to the height of the template but work fine. I fine the low shank less comfortable to hold but have friends who love using the low shank and have no problem using them.
This video shares some of the setting adjustments that can help ensure better performance when using the higher end Berninas like the 590 and 790. It should be similar for other machines like the 880.
