A UK national was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm on Saturday afternoon, following an incident at Western Beach.
Armed officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar Defence Police responded to a report that a man had brandished a handgun at another man at the beach.
According to the RGP, officers immediately cordoned off the area to safeguard the public, and an ambulance was dispatched. A 53 year old UK national was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and making threats to kill.
During the incident, customers at the Eroski supermarket nearby were not allowed to leave for around 20 minutes; the supermarket provided them with free bottles of water in case they had to wait longer.
The RGP say officers have searched the area, but no weapon has been found. The area has now been fully reopened to the public, and an investigation is underway.
