There's a case of domestic violence. The accuser earlier said "she hit me" and then, later on, say "She didn't really hit me." Or, "You know what, she didn't really hit me. I was exaggerating." What happens if a domestic violence victim recants their statement? Maybe the victim did not recant. They didn't show up. The victim is not participating in court proceedings. They just became passive. This could be an advantage to the perpetrator. In most cases, the court will approve the motion for dismissal from the perpetrator. It will be different from the perspective of an accusing witness. You say under oath that you made a false report or you lied. You will be prosecuted for filing a false police report. You will be prosecuted for perjury. You are at legal risk for doing that. You don't show up. If you don't participate in the proceedings the result will be the same. The case will be dismissed.
