No rest for Madonna on tour- now she's being sued for promoting gay rights! Hey music lovers, welcome back to your source for music news- ClevverMusic. We recently reported that Madonna gave a controversial speech in St. Petersburg, Russia at her August 9th MDNA concert.
In Russia, LGBT pride marches are banned by the Government. In her speech, Madonna made no reference to the Russian government at all, but compared Gay Rights to Civil Rights and credited Martin Luther King Jr. for equal rights campaign.
On Friday, nine Russian activists filed a lawsuit against Madonna, the concert organizers, and the venue, asking for damages totaling 333 million rubles, or $10.5 million dollars, according to the Associated Press. In February, a law was passed in St. Petersburg that makes it illegal to promote homosexuality to minors, and reportedly children as young as 12 were in attendance at her concert.
Here's a snippet of what was heard at the show.
Call us crazy, but her speech doesn't seem too rebellious to us. Now, keep in mind Madonna isn't exactly on Russia's list of favorite people right now. The 53-year-old just angered conservative Russians with her support of punk band Pussy Riot, jailed for a protest performance against Vladimir Putin in an Orthodox cathedral. Do you think it's valid for Russian activists to be suing Madonna for $10 million for disobeying the law? Leave us a comment below.
