As the largest tactical formation in the Russian army, Divisions are designed to confront any potential aggressor.
They are generally garrisoned in places requiring a broader span of control like the Western, Southern, and Central Military Districts.
Although there is no standard organization, many follow the classic Soviet six-regiment mix of maneuver, artillery, and air defense.
An additional MRL battalion is common. Also note the absence of the Anti-tank battalion in the Tank Division.
Mechanized regiments generally have three battalions of IFVs and one battalion of tanks, while the inverse is common for tank regiments
Other key divisional enablers include the air defense regiment, and battalions of anti-tank, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, combat engineer, and support elements.
