CLIFTON, Ohio (WKRC) - The new Clifton Market officially opened Monday, January 23.
The market was at the former Keller's IGA on Ludlow Avenue, which closed in 2011. After Keller's closed a community group came together, bought the building, and then sold shares at $200 apiece to raise a couple of million bucks. $3 million more in loans and after a long, sometimes bumpy road, Clifton Market opened for shareholder's Sunday and Monday morning opened to the general public for regular business hours, 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. every day.
Market general manager, Keith Brock, said, "What makes this place is our team members, our partners, the store itself. The uniqueness of everything that's house made instead of being shipped in pre-packaged, and us caring about the community."
The owner of Adrian Durban Florist expected Clifton Market to be a financial good neighbor, "It will be good, it's good to have foot traffic back on the street and people wanting to come to the neighborhood to shop," said Beth Durban.
Over the weekend, shoppers got a sneak peek and picked up some groceries. Special events for the store's grand opening were planned for later in the week.
The market has about 1,500 shareholders who bought and renovated the new store.
