William Henry Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American businessman, software developer, investor, author, and philanthropist. He is a co-founder of Microsoft, along with his late childhood friend Paul Allen.
Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975, to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. Microsoft is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and online services.
During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), president and chief software architect.
