The Reformation was a renewal movement of the one holy catholic and Apostolic church. As such, the Reformers were not only protesting the developments and perversions of the papalists, they were also protesting against the radical Reformation that went too far and ended up denying the ancient foundations of the church. Because of the influence of pietism and revivalism, the Anabaptist framework has become common place in Evangelicalism and distorts our understanding of the Reformation. We desperately need to understand the Reformers contra the Anabaptists for our own edification and recovery of the Gospel in our day.
