On May 25, 1996, University student Kristen Smart disappeared without a trace after being last seen around 2 a.m. Paul Flores, one of her fellow students, was initially considered a suspect, but the investigation did not progress. In 2002, Smart was legally declared dead despite her body never being found. In 2021, Paul Flores was charged with Smart's murder, and his father, Reuben Flores, was charged as an accessory.
