SFPD Releases Holiday Safe Shopper Video
Dec. 1, 2016
In collaboration with the Office of Mayor Ed Lee, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and SFGovTV, the San Francisco Police Department has released a new Safe Shopper video that encourages shoppers to patronize San Francisco businesses this holiday season and take simple steps to protect their purchases.
“There’s no place as special as San Francisco when it comes to the holiday season and finding one-of-a-kind holiday gifts,” said Mayor Ed Lee. “And there are a few common sense guidelines everyone should follow to get their holiday shopping done safely and get those special gifts home to their loved ones.”
The video highlights the city’s “Shop & Dine in the 49” initiative, which challenges residents to do all of their holiday shopping and dining within San Francisco’s 49 square miles. SFMTA Director of Transportation Ed Reiskin and SFPD Interim Chief Toney Chaplin also provide tips to stay safe and prevent theft.
“Stay alert- it’s easy to get distracted while you’re on the phone and have an armful of packages,” said Chief Chaplin. “The San Francisco Police Department will have increased foot patrols, plainclothes officers and mounted units out in shopping areas to help deter crime this holiday season.”
“No matter how you get around, please take your time and be aware of your surroundings,” said Director Reiskin. “Shoppers can visit our website for up-to-date information on Muni service, special events and parking tips to ensure a great experience for everyone.”
The Safe Shopper video was produced by SFGovTV and is available for viewing and downloading at vimeo.com/193432718. The video will be distributed via social media and air in regular rotation on SFGovTV. The Hotel Council of San Francisco will also encourage its member hotels to showcase the video during the 2016 holiday season.
