After running for about a year and a half, I noticed that the pump was running butt there were no bubbles in the septic tank. The air bubbles are supposed to help move the bacteria around inside the tank and push them out into the pipe and leach field. I called Septic Genie and they told me I might have blown the diaphragm in the pump and would need a rebuilt kit. Turns out it was just a dirty filter. I was supposed to clean that twice a year. Whoops.
If you do need to rebuild the pump it's fairly simple but luckily I'm not there...yet.
