The History: In 1965, Sunshine purchased their first chairlift from a little-known company called Timberland-Ellicot. Timberland-Ellicot was based out of Eastern Canada, but little else is known of them. The original Standish chair was so problematic, that Sunshine had to bring in Hall Ski Lifts a few years later to retrofit the lift. Once again in 1985, the Standish chair was retrofitted again by Mueller, replacing the seats, the sheaves, and possibly the drive. In 2003, Sunshine finally decided that it was time for the old chairlift to be replaced, and chose Leitner-Poma to build the new detachable. The Mt. Standish Express remains the most important of the three lifts servicing Mt. Standish, and also runs in the summer as well as winter.
The lift: The Mt. Standish Express is a 2003 Leitner-Poma high-speed detachable. It is fairly short and only has ten towers. Like almost all other detachables at Sunshine, it has a bottom drive. It has 62 chairs.
