STORYLINE:
The financial leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy nations are meeting in Japan in the port city of in Niigata ahead of a G-7 summit in Hiroshima to tackle global economic challenges including the war in Ukraine.
Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki announced a mobilization of $1 billion funds to Ukraine-related aid.
This G-7 meeting takes place as a standoff over the U.S. debt ceiling looms as one of the biggest potential threats to the global economy.
Kazuo Ueda, the governor of the Bank of Japan, said that if the United States defaults on its debt, it will become a big move and a big problem that the Federal Reserve alone can't counteract.
