Ingrid Betancourt, a Colombian politician, was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in February 2002 while campaigning for the presidency. She was held captive in the Colombian jungle for more than six years, during which she endured harsh conditions, psychological abuse, and near-starvation. Betancourt's captivity became a significant international concern. In July 2008, the Colombian military launched Operation Jaque, a meticulously planned and executed mission in which undercover agents posing as humanitarian workers infiltrated the FARC camp. The agents managed to deceive the guerrillas and rescue Betancourt along with 14 other hostages without a single shot fired, making it one of the most remarkable rescue missions in history.
