Greetings everyone, it's nice to be reunited with you again! Fayum portraits, often called "precursors to iconography", are not just artefacts of the past. They are a remarkable depiction of cultural exchange and interaction. These portraits, which emerged from the funerary customs of ancient Egypt under Roman rule in the first to third centuries AD, were originally discovered in the Fayum Oasis in 1887, hence their name. Despite similar discoveries elsewhere in Egypt, they have retained the label "Fayum portraits". To date, some 750 of these ancient treasures have been collected. We have prepared a selection for you, brought to life through the wonders of neural networks. Sit back, relax and enjoy the journey!
