Oh my, wasn't I in a bit of a state when I first heard this monster. My life was not in good shape and I was even worse for wear than that. Yet, from this year, I remember this record releasing more than the bad times I was going through. Says a lot for the power of great rock and roll.
Ceej, has released a LOT of music outside of the Wildhearts, whether it was Honeycrack, The Jellys, CJ and the Satellites or under his name only, one thing was clear, he can write a gorgeous song, punchy riffs and deliver those irritatingly top rate vocals with the best of them, he more than deserves his place among the elite as far as I am concerned.
Taken from the incredible 'Robot' record, this is "FUBAR"...now this was to my ears the start of something a bit different...Sheer power, monster riffing, breakneck drums taking things into a more aggressive edge.
Needless to say, I loved it.
And it was only a taste of things to come.
Followed by the almost aggressively heavy 'Blood' record and then superceded by the 'smack you in the mouth and chainsaw your corpse' heavy 'Siege' (ceej, get it? :D) his output was exactly what I personally wanted to hear more of and it just keeps getting better and better.
Don't get me wrong, there is always a hook and a melody but to just have him let rip like this? Phenomenal.
E flat for this one, you need a bit of a driven guitar but not quite in the metal tone area as you need crunch more than bite. Pick your moments for single notes and power chords, depending on the oomph you wanna get from it.
I loved playing this and got a little carried away. I'm not even sorry bout it.
I have received a green light to start working my way through Blood and Siege so expect to see more videos of CJ's catalogue. Let me know if you want anything in particular and I'll get to them first :D
