The F-35, the pinnacle of aerial combat technology. With a price tag reflecting its cutting-edge capabilities, the F-35 comes in three distinct variants: A, B, and C.
The F-35A, the most prevalent and cost-effective model, mirrors traditional jets in takeoff and landing. It's the backbone of the fleet, with the U.S. planning to acquire an impressive 1,763 units at an average cost of $82 million each.
In contrast, the F-35B boasts an innovative feature inspired by the British Harrier: vertical takeoff and landing. This versatility, however, trades off with a reduced payload—down from 18,000 to 15,000 pounds—and a shorter range by 160 miles.
Lastly, the F-35C is designed with naval prowess in mind. It features a larger wingspan, foldable wings to conserve carrier space, a reinforced frame, and an arresting hook for carrier landings. Exclusive to the U.S. Navy, this variant commands a price of $102 million per unit.
