The biggest difference between heady glass and scientific glass is the use of percolation and diffusion. In a scientific bong like the one featured in this video, several percolators help to diffuse the smoke through the water. This creates smaller smoke particles, and the smaller the smoke particle, the more rapidly it can be cooled by the water. The goal of a bong is not only to filter out tar, and plant matter through the water, but also to deliver a smooth hit. Daddy Dank's rule of thumb is the smaller the bubbles the smoother the smoke.
