I'm still not quite brave enough to dye 100g of roving! In this video, I dye 20g of White Welsh Top with the intention of spinning it. I wanted to see how speckles would work ad blend out on roving. I picked two colours that I new would break, purple acid dye from DT Craft and Design and mermaid's dream fibre reactive dye from Dharma, because I love seeing dyes break. I'm *still* far too heavy handed with speckling. I really need to practice! I speckled on both sides of the fibre, then steam set it. I used a 10g of 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon yarn, dyed in a 1% depth of shade of fluorescent fuchsia (meaning there was the equivalent of 1g of dye per 100g of yarn) to wipe my fingers on. Once the fibre had cooled, been washed and dried, I was able to spin it.
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
