Haemopis marmorata is leech that shares a near common ancestor with the Hirudiniid leeches that are blood feeders. But they have diminished jaws and teeth, instead having a muscular pumping pharynx they use to rip, suck and swallow prey whole.
They feed on fish and amphibian eggs, snails and other worms, which they actively hunt.
