SAFE (Senior Adult Fitness Exercises) is an exercise program designed especially for seniors. The goal is to improve quality of life by boosting strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance and helping to prevent falls. Dr. José A. Morais, Director of the Division of Geriatrics at the McGill University Health Centre, developed this free home-based exercise program.
The program has four difficulty levels. Each level has five exercise videos. Always begin with the warmup video to stretch the muscles. The balance exercises improve coordination and stability while the flexibility movements reduce joint stiffness and enhance overall mobility. Both of these components help diminish the fear of falling.
Subscribe and make SAFE part of your routine. Start at Level 1. It should take 25 to 30 minutes to complete a level. As you get stronger, SAFE gets easier.
